Just down the road is Capercaillie, a boutique producer offering a broad range of wine grown and made onsite. You can sample the classic Hunter Valley varieties of Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Shiraz along will lesser known wines such as Gewurztraminer and Chambourcin.
Time for Lunch
We’ll visit the Hunter Valley Gardens Shopping Village where there are over 20 businesses to explore. You can buy lunch from one of two cafes or dine in a lovely restaurant, The Cellar. Alternatively, you could bring your own lunch; we have a fridge on board the bus and there are lovely picnic grounds near by. Take you time to wonder the village shops or if you rather, visit Australia’s largest display gardens the cost is $30pp ($27 Seniors)
Visit the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company and sample 4 chocolates. You can try locally made fudge, chilli chocolate and chocolate coated coffee beans.
Our next stop for our Hunter Valley bus tour is Roche Estate where we’ll visit another boutique producer called Meerea Park. This cellar door has a long Hunter Valley history and showcase our classic grape varieties, Semillon and Shiraz extremely well. Also in the Roche Estate complex there are shops offering cheese, gelato, shopping, coffee and more. They include: The Smelly Cheese Shop, Goldfish and Tempus Two.
Our last stop of the day is at Sabor Dessert Bar. There are over 50 desserts to choose from, most of them contain mousse following Fernando’s (the owner) grandmothers recipe. Single desserts can be purchased ranging from $11 to $15 and there are also tasting plates suitable to share. The views from the is venue are amazing and overlook a vineyard and the Brokenback Range. Maybe you would rather be wine tasting, Lambloch Wines located downstairs. They offer traditional Hunter wine styles as well as a more adventurous modern take on winemaking.
